Wallace's Hut #1

from A$550.00

OPEN EDITION

Ratio 2:3 Standard.

Nestled among ancient snow gums, Wallace’s Hut on the Bogong High Plains was built in 1889 by the Scottish born Wallace brothers Arthur, William, and Stewart. Mountain stockmen like the Wallace’s spent months in the high country with the stock they pushed up to the alpine pastures.

Constructed from hand-split snow gum slabs and a roof of woolubutt shingles (later replaced with corrugated iron), the hut was built to endure. Thought to be the oldest surviving hut in the in the Victorian Alps it has stood for over 135 years. A weathered relic of Australia’s pioneering past, when the High Country was a world of endurance and quiet resilience.

Framed Canvases come set in a stunning Tasmanian Oak float frame.

Framed Prints come bordered with white acid free mat boards for a professional elegant finish, in either a contemporary box frame or country frame. See all frame styles below.
